The Custom Bike That Leaves You Speechless
Designed by 27-year-old Benjamin Blanchard, the visionary head of Cannes-based design studio Impoz, the Speed Racer is a custom bike like you’ve never seen before. It took him a whole year to reshape the original, an understandably strenuous labor of love that resulted in a lighter version of one of Triumphs top sellers. See it here, snapped by Blanchard himself, and don’t be coy about gushing about it on its creator’s Facebook wall – he’s even posted the 360-degree photo shoot outputs in video format, featuring the black beauty in all its glory, from all possible angles.
A pioneer of the Streetfighter style, the Speed Triple first came off the assembly line in 1994, and demand’s been firing on all cylinders ever since. So why the restoration work? The reasoning behind it, as Blanchard explains it, was getting the Racer “to provide maximum sensation” for its rider. In order to succeed in morphing the Triumph Speed Triple into the Impoz Speed Racer, the designer hunkered down in his studio until he’d not only manufactured the bike parts himself, but even made moldings of the wheels to better fit the fenders! The result is indeed seamless.
Blanchard’s main goal in his design work, as he put it in an interview for Triumphadonf.com, is to “raise questions, to leave people speechless, whether they like it or (sometimes) not.”
